Keep the scares spooky, not serious this Halloween
With Halloween lurking around the corner, Police are encouraging everyone to take a few simple steps to ensure the night is all treats and no tricks.
Inspector Brett Callander, Manager of Community Prevention and Partnerships, says before the pirates and fairies go out and about, it is important to refresh about safety.
"Halloween falls on a Saturday night this year, and as Saturday evenings are traditionally busy for Police and other emergency services we’d ask that you take care so that we don’t have to turn up in our real life costumes.
“Halloween is all about having fun, however, it is important for families to tick-off some quick tips before the big night to ensure everyone stays safe.”
If your children are heading out on Saturday night, make sure they are accompanied by a parent or a trusted guardian.
If you’re a teenager, stick with your friends, stay in your group, and look out for each other.
“Make sure to plan ahead, stick to well-known areas, and be aware of your surroundings when crossing roads.”
Another option is to check your community pages to see which homes will be participating this year.
It is also a good reminder that not everyone likes to participate in Halloween, is able to take part, or appreciates repeated knocks on their door.
“If you see a sign that says ‘no trick-or-treat here’ or similar, then please respect their wishes.
“Householders do not have to open the door or respond to knocks from Halloween visitors,” says Inspector Callander.
Like every spooky season, Police’s focus is the safety of everyone within our communities.
